Media Bias

Media Bias?

As we all know Elizabeth Warren still has not announced (or plan too) that she will be running for president in 2016 but that does not mean that she is not in the media, at both ends of the spectrum. Warren was recently featured on CNN to discuss her book and what the focus of the 2016 presidential election should be, middle-class families and the economy. In this video it shows the softer but strong voiced Senator that Warren is known for. As we know CNN is more of a liberal news source therefore, them showing this video and featuring Warren isn’t a total shocker. The video portrays Warren as down to earth woman who knows her information and isn’t afraid to speak the truth.

The article is mostly quotes and doesn’t have any room for opinions, especially conservative opinions which is what The Blaze is. However, she Warren has repeatedly said no to running for president, it was difficult to find a specific article on the conservative side of news media that discussed her “what-if” running situation.

Between the two different news links Elizabeth Warren is portrayed as a hero, in the CNN video she comes off as a Senator for the people, she comes off as knowledge and well put together. In The Blaze article it discusses that organized liberal groups are putting together petitions for Warren to run, even though she has repeatedly said no to running for president.

Based on everything that I have researched about Warren for the last couple of weeks, her beliefs, and attitude were portrayed both equally from both media news sources. Warren for example is total opposite of Sarah Palin when it comes to their mannerisms and speaking style and neither of these specific news reports make Warren come off as a Palin alike, the new sources make her seem like the senator that she is, a passionate person.  There is nothing unfair in either of these reports that would be considered biased media information, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t biased information and articles out there because, well there is. The only “unfair” comment in The Blaze article is that it says Warren would trail far behind Clinton, which who’s to say Warren wouldn’t give Clinton a run for her money and win?

  1. Like you mentioned Warren has repeatedly said no to running in 2016. If at one point she decides to run though, do you think that will influence more biases about her in the media, or not at all?

  2. Do you think the bias will change over time?

  3. I do think if she decides to run I do think it will influence more biases, she had trouble when running for senator so just like any politician I believe she will have to deal with biases in the media, just on a greater scale than before.

  4. TJ, I believe that bias can always change good or bad, and it doesn't matter who it is. As a supporter of Warren I can only hope that bias changes for good and that there isn't negative bias in the media.

  5. Bill Maher offered her $1M in campaign contributions, while she was on his show. Do you think that might influence her to change her mind, and decide to run?

  6. I have seen many posts that say Warren would be a better candidate compared to Hilary. Do you think that Warren, being so popular to the democratic party but being in a position to be compared to Hilary, is hurting or helping Clinton's chance of election?

  7. Although Warren hasn't announced presidency for the 2016 election, she is still getting a lot of press conference. Do you think the media gives her such a strong presence because they want to pin her against Hillary for more ratings?

  8. Alan, I do believe that if you were to offer $1 million to other candidates then yes it would have a factor in their decision but Warren is very strong willed so I don't believe that it completely change her mind. Sarah, I think the comparison of Warren to Clinton is actually going to hurt Clinton in the long haul of her campaign. LK, I do believe that she is getting a lot of media coverage because there's pressure for her to run but also because Hillary is another woman, and our society loves the "cat fight" of politics.
